After a warm welcome from your local guide who lives in Ullapool and knows every corner on your journey like the back of their hand, hop on your mini coach. Journey north into the vast and empty landscapes of Assynt where the roads become quieter, the mountains more rugged and a strong sense for wilderness is evoked. Nature takes centre stage while you immerse yourself in the vistas unfolding with vast landscapes, lonely lochs and dramatic mountain peaks. Your experienced guide and storyteller brings the history, geology, landscapes and stories to life during your travel. Plenty of stops at Knockan Crag, Kylesku, Loch Assynt with scenic Ardvreck Castle ruins and other great viewpoints give you the opportunity to pause, take in the surroundings and capture your nature experience in this area of outstanding beauty in fantastic photos.

What you need to know: The photo stops can involve some uneven ground, walking negligibly. Comfortable shoes and rain gear advised. Tour led by a local expert guide. As we are venturing out in the wild, there are no shops, cafés etc. on the way, only restrooms at two scenic spots.

You will be welcomed by your friendly local guide who loves to share their passion for places and people with you. Dive into the stunning Highlands on a Panorama Drive across lush and green landscapes along tree-lined roads. Be amazed by the change in scenery while you travel through dramatic wild and empty mountain, loch and moorland landscapes. Two photo stops at a very scenic waterfall and at a remote loch with great views into the mountains make for great photo opportunities and a chance to pause and take-in your surroundings. The land becomes gentler again as we reach the historic quaint village of Strathpeffer where the Victorians indulged in fresh air and the healing waters. Enjoy free time here to explore the village with it’s restored Victorian railway station, have a cuppa or an ice cream, and venture out to an ancient stone connected to a intriguing folk tale your guide will happily share with you. It’s time to head back to Ullapool. Once more, immerse yourself in ever-changing natural displays and vistas while you are entertained by Viking and Clan history, learn about the famous geology here and hear stories from Ullapool and its people.

What you need to know: Walking in Strathpeffer to the main square and at the 2 photo stops is short and easy with some slightly uneven surfaces and a few steps. Ca. 500 yards optional walking in Strathpeffer to the old railway station and the ancient stone. The coach is a generous full size comfortable coach which we will not fill up to max. capacity for your convenience. Tour led by a local expert guide.

Yes! We have carefully curated your experience and all timings. Our tours finish at least 1 hour before your ship sails to give you plenty of time to take a tender back to your ship.
It is only a 3 minutes walk from the place where the coach stops to the harbour building from which you can take a tender back to the ship.
Yes, all tour timings fit perfectly with your time in port. We will be back at least 1 hour before your ship sails to give you plenty of time to walk the 3 minutes or so to the tender.
To make it most convenient for you, your tour guide and coach are waiting for you just outside the harbour. The coaches have a Ullapool sign on them and the name of your tour. Directions will be included in your booking confirmation.
No worries, you do not have to pay if your ship cancels your stop in Ullapool.
We recommend comfortable shoes and clothing according to the weather. Ullapool’s weather changes quickly, so it is best to come prepared. Rain gear and depending on the season some warm clothes are a good idea.

Ullapool: There are facilities available in the ferry terminal next to the coach parking space and at the harbour in the black building where the tender boats land.
For the ‘Into Assynt’ Tour: There are restrooms at 2 scenic viewpoints.
For the ‘Across the Highlands’ Tour: There are restrooms at the waterfalls and in Strathpeffer.
We would say in general yes as long as you are able to get in and out of the coach (a few steps) and are able to walk to and use a standard (quite small) toilet. Please kindly have a look at the tour descriptions and/or contact us if in doubt.
Into Assynt Tour: No, we are venturing out in the wild and there are no shops, cafes, food trucks etc. available on this tour.
You can fill up a plastic / water bottle just outside the harbour with fresh tap water for free.
We will bring some sweeties along!
Across the Highlands Tour: You can find shops and eateries in Strathpeffer where you will enjoy free time.
No, these tours are open to everyone, you will join a group tour. Just send us an email to book your spot on your chosen date.
Ullapool Tours can cancel a tour at any time. Of course, we will cancel tours only when absolutely necessary due to the minimum number not reached, abysmal weather, illness, etc., or circumstances not in our control.
Ullapool Tours can alter tours at any time if necessary for safety reasons or other unforeseen circumstances.
Ullapool Tours accepts no liability for personal injury, any loss of property or damage to your posessions during the duration of the tour.
If you require special assistance, please make sure to contact us in advance to see if our tours are suitable for you.
We advise appropriate footwear/clothing according to the weather and terrain. Midge repellent might be advisable during the summer months.
All minors under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Please keep younger children under close supervision for safety reasons.

We advise to be at the meeting point 10-15 minutes prior to the tour. Our tours will run as scheduled and we can’t wait for you longer than 5 minutes max.

Yes! The fabulous scenery and ever changing lights are absolutely travelling through even on a rainy day. The weather can change quickly here, so it is best to be prepared and take an umbrella, a rain jacket. The sun is strong in summer here even if it is not that warm, so sun cream might be an idea as well.
